Imphal, June 19 2025:
Sharply reacting to the recent statements issued by the Foothill Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) which termed 'Kukiland' as imaginary, and warned against relocating camps of Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement in Naga areas, the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) has claimed that no Kuki SoO designated camps were/will be located in the so called 'Kacha Naga areas'.
A press release issued by WKZIC went on to claim that Kukis have a vast area of land called Khongjai Hills (1741-42), later Kuki Hills.
Kuki Hills in Kanglei Manipur were demarcated into four regions as; British Mombi (Longpi) Area (1907) stretching from whole erstwhile Tengnoupal, now bifurcated into Tengnoupal and Chandel.
British Chassad Area (1907) covering erstwhile Ukhrul, now bifurcated into Ukhrul and Kamjong along with parts of Sadar Hills up to Senapati bridge.
British Jampi Area (1907) which includes parts of west Sadar Hills, erstwhile Laijang (Tamenglong), now bifurcated into Tamenglong and Noney and parts of Singson region, now Pherzawl.
British Haokip Reserved (1907) and Songpi sub-division (1919) .
The colonial British, as a punishment to the Kukis who confronted them from 1917 to 1919 (Kuki Rising), intentionally left behind the above four regions of Khongjai Hills of Manipur as Kuki Hills after carving out Naga Hills, now Nagaland, Khasi-Garo-Jantia Hills, now Meghalaya and Lushai Hills, now Mizoram as a "reward for 3000 Naga Labour Corps, 1500 Khasi-Garo-Jantia Labour Corps and 2100 Lushai Corps who, in favour of the British authorities, had gone to France and Mesopotamia for logistic works and as porters during the World War I", it said.
The WKZIC then asked FNCC to be decent and mature in expressing its grievances while using vocabularies such as "unprovoked, immigrants or refugees" before knowing realities.
"We hope you guys are now civilised and no longer like your ancestors anymore in this digital era, but still with the same wild mentality is very unfortunate.
Kukis, unlike others, till date have strict war ethics not to fight with others unless provoked or challenged or rights deprived of or curtailed", it claimed.
It further asked the FNCC and 'brethren Kacha Nagas of Manipur to recollect the '130 days UNC economic blockade' of 2017 that also badly affected Kukis when they actually intended to hurt the Meiteis.
