Imphal, December 18 2024:
The Tribal Research Institute (TRI) office located at Chingmeirong has been found without adequate staff and not functioning properly since May 3, 2024, said Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM).
This was found when it conducted an inspection yesterday, T YCM in a statement.
During the inspection, only three staff were present at the TRI office.
When enquired, it was revealed that the TRI has not conducted any programmes since May 3, 2023, it said.
"Additionally, the offices of the Director and Research Officer-cum-Administrative Officer were found locked, and the staff disclosed that these officials have not been attending the TRI office.
Instead, they are reportedly operating from the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills, Manipur, neglecting their physical presence at the TRI office," it said.
The inspection also revealed the poor and unsatisfactory condition of the TRI office.
The premises were found to be in a deplorable state highlighting the lack of maintenance, it added.
The absence of the Director and Research Officer-cum-Administrative Officer at TRI office has disrupted its operations, raising serious concerns about its ability to serve the tribal communities effectively, said TYCM.
Normal operations at the TRI Office, Chingmeirong should be resumed by January 15, 2025 ensuring physical presence of all staff, including the Director.
The Government and authorities concerned will be held responsible for any untoward incidents arising from failure to comply with the appeal, said TYCM .
