79th Naga Independence Day celebrated in Senapati

Senapati, August 14 2025: Alongside other Naga-inhabited areas, the 79th Naga Independence Day was marked with enthusiasm at the TNK Football Ground, Senapati, in a programme organised by the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) today.

Boveio Poukai Duo CAO of Shepoumaramth Region, GPRN, lauded the SDSA for organising a memorable flag march rally, describing it as an event that would go down in the history of the district.

Recalling that Naga Independence Day was first declared on Aug 14, 1947, he urged unity under the banner of national spirit, affirming that Nagas have always been a free people with the courage to determine their destiny.

He emphasized that this declaration was not merely political, but rooted in centuries of self-governance and cultural pride.

A Adakho, vice-president of the NPO, urged research into the decline of Naga nationalism spirit and called for stronger public and national cooperation to revitalise the movement.

He proposed celebrating Naga Independence Day on a larger scale in the future.

The program was led by Kho Washington KP, general secretary SDSA, with an invocation prayer by Rev Shele, pastor TNK.

YK Achan, EO Maram-Thangal CAA, GPRN, hoisted the national flag, followed by a special song by Diana Mangkang, and a vote of thanks by MK Digabou Jacob, VP SDSA and benediction prayer tendered by NG Thuiba Norbert.

The programme was attended by officials of NPO, SDSA, ANS AM, national workers, public leaders, church leaders, public and others.
