Imphal, July 13 2024:
The Delhi Meitei Coordinating Commi-ttee is organising a massive protest demonstration on the Manipur crisis at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 28 .
The Manipur conflict has not been resolved even after 14 months.
The planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar will denounce the Government's failure to promptly address the conflict and Central security forces' "divisive action", said DMCC Women Wing's publicity secretary Naorem Lilina at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
Speaking to reporters, Lilina said the demonstration will highlight four main issues plaguing Manipur.
Explaining the issues, she asserted that the Central security forces who have been deployed in Manipur in large numbers are "erecting walls of division between communities" .
The Central security forces' action of "segregating" the communities has deepened the trust deficit among the communities and created a visible "division" between the people, she said, accusing the forces of "supporting" the Kuki narco-terrorists" .
She said the demonstration at Jantar Mantar will demand the Central security forces and the Centre to dismantle the 'walls' that divide communities.
Lilina further asserted that bringing about a condition to establish a peaceful resolution requires the Government to stop Kuki mili- tants' attacks on the people.
For this, the Central security forces must act against the Kuki militants and destroy the latter's bunkers in the hills, she said.
The Government must, without delay, establish conditions for return of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their original settlements, she added.
DMCC Youth Wing in-charge, Ningthem Khuman said the Kuki militants' aggression on Meiteis started on May 3, 2023 and such an aggression may happen to other communities in the future.
Ningthem said the July 28 demonstration will amplify the voice of the people of Manipur and demand a resolution to bring about peace.
The July 28 demonstration at Jantar Mantar will begin at 1 pm and conclude at 3 pm, he said, appealing to all communities and sections of the people from Manipur and others to attend.
The DMCC leaders present in the press meet also urged Manipuri diaspora in all parts of India and abroad to hold similar demonstrations in their respective places.
The violent conflict erupted on May 3, 2023 after a tribal solidarity rally organised by ATSUM at Churachandpur turned violent.
The participants of the rally, many of whom were armed with sophisticated weapons, marched all the way to Torbung Bangla and attacked unsuspecting and unarmed Meitei villagers and burnt down their houses and other properties.
