Man found dead in rehab centre

Imphal, June 12 2025:
A 21-year-old man died under suspicious circumstances at a rehabilitation center at Narankonjin Mamang Leikai in Imphal West, with family members alleging foul play and seeking accountability from the center's authorities.
Reports indicated that the man was discovered hanging in the washroom of the rehabilitation center yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Sanasam Jackson, s/o (L) Inao of Thoubal Haokha Mamang Leikai and the body has been kept at the RIMS morgue after a postmortem was conducted in the presence of a Magistrate, with video coverage.
Soibam ongbi Sarju, the deceased's sister, said her brother was admitted to the Anouba Itinpham Drug DeAddiction cum Rehabilitation Centre at Narankonjin Mamang Leikai on June 8 morning.
She claimed that they met Jackson at the rehabilitation center on June 10 and found him happy, but the center's authorities informed them the next evening that Jackson was found hanging in the washroom.
When the family members took him to Island Hospital at Canchipur, he was declared dead by the doctor on duty, she said .
She claimed that they suspect foul play and doesn't believe it was a suicide, accusing the rehabilitation center's authorities of staging the incident.
The authorities refused to share the video footage, citing a power outage between 1 pm and 4 pm on June 11, she alleged.
She stated that they will not claim the body until the authorities take appropriate action against those responsible for her brother's death.
Post mortem of the dead body was conducted today at RIMS morgue in presence of magistrate with video coverage and kept at RIMS morgue.
Wangoi Police Station has also registered a case regarding the incident.
