Imphal, July 08 2025:
The Manipur Government Services' Federation (MGSF) and the Manipur State Pensioners' Union (MSPU) have extended their support to the July 9 Nationwide general strike announced by 11 Central Trade Unions.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club today, MGSF president L Sarat stated that the protest in Manipur will be observed symbolically due to prevailing circumstances.
He stated that they will stage a sit-in protest as part of the Nationwide protest instead of blocking roads and disrupting vehicular movement.
He called upon all MGSF-affiliated union members, association representatives, and district branch office personnel to join the protest tomorrow.
L Sarat stated that MGSF is pushing for several key demands, including the repeal of the four Labour Codes, reinstatement of the Old Pension System, regularization of contract workers, and the formation of a State Pay Commission among others.
The protest is being called by a joint forum of different Central Trade Unions, along with associated workers' and farmers' organisations to register their disapproval of the alleged anti-worker, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate policies of the Central Government.
The unions alleged the Government is pushing economic and labour reforms that weaken worker rights and worsen job conditions, all in the name of ease of doing business.
