Imphal, August 06 2025:
In a significant blow to Manipur's underprivileged population, private health institutes have announced that they will suspend financial benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) starting August 16, citing unpaid dues.
This decision follows a resolution by the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI), Manipur Chapter, during a July 30, 2025 meeting.
AHPI Manipur Chapter, in a press release issued by its president Dr Palin Khundongbam and secretary Dr James Elangbam, announced that its member hospitals will take full payment for the treatment of PM-JAY beneficiaries from August 16 .
The treatment cost will be reimbursed to the patients once the Government clears the pending dues, it said and emphasized that this decision doesn't imply a discontinuation of the PM-JAY scheme, but rather a delayed reimbursement.
Stating that private hospitals in Manipur are experiencing financial and operational strain due to unpaid PM-JAY dues, AHPI added that the non-clearance of these dues is making it challenging for hospitals to operate while beneficiaries continue to receive treatment.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries are entitled to up to Rs 5 lakh per year in medical services and facilities at empanelled hospitals, including private healthcare providers.
