Hundreds of teachers, students, and guardians took out rallies at three locations to mark the 18th anniversary of Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand Day today.
Organized by DESAM and 15 other organizations, including teachers' and student bodies, the rallies were held under the common theme 'Make Education a Disturbance-Free Zone" in Imphal, Thoubal and Bishnupur.
The rally in Imphal commenced from THAU ground at Thangmeiband and marched towards Khoyathong, covering the Nagamapal stretch and Tiddim road, before concluding at Imphal College.
After the rally, participants gathered at Imphal College for a meeting and submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
In Kakching and Thoubal districts, participants assembled at BASU Ground and proceeded to Thoubal College.
Meanwhile, in Bishnupur district, the rally was held from DSA Ground to the ECHO Thiyam Leikai community hall.
The demands raised during the rallies were to stop making unreasonable monetary demands on educational institutions, stop politicizing education, conduct classes for at least 220 days, refrain from engaging in activities that may disrupt classes, not engage in corruption, nepotism, and favouritism in education, and appoint Director of Education (U) officials from among eligible teachers.
