76th Van Mahotsav launched at Pidoinu Laiphamlen, over 1000 saplings planted

The 76th Van Mahotsav, 2025 was launched today with a mass tree plantation drive at Pidoinu Laiphamlen, Pungdongbam, Khamenlok, Gwaltabi Reserve Forest.
The event was organised by the Forest Department, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with 86 Battalion CRPF, under the theme "Plant Trees, Save Trees: Lend a Hand to Make Our Manipur Greener" .
Notably, Van Mahotsav, also known as the "Festival of Trees", is an annual week-long tree-planting festival celebrated in the country during the first week of July.
The festival was started in 1950 by the Ministry of Agriculture to create awareness about the importance of trees and forests in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring environmental stability.
The launching event was graced by dignitaires, including Anurag Bajpai, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF); RK Amarjit Singh, Conservator of Forests, Central Circle; Khuraijam Sanajaoba, Nodal Officer, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign; Kiyam Rajiv, Deputy Commandant, 86 Battalion CRPF and Th Dinesh, SDPO Lamlai.
Brand ambassadors of Van Mahotsav 2025- Esme Singh Shaiza, Miss Shirui Lily 2025 and Disti Athokpam Devi, 1st Runner-up Miss Shirui Lily 2025 also attended the event as special guests.
Debala Laiphrakpam, CF, Administration & Planning; Vikram Nadhe, DFO, Central Forest Division; M Jobid Meitei, RFO Central; Kiranjit Yumnam, RFO Sadar West; Sorokhaibam Robertson, RFO Nongmaiching; David Athokpam, RFO Sawombung; and Tipu Raj Toijam, RFO HQ were also present at the event.
As part of the initiative, over 1000 saplings were planted by CRPF personnel, officials and staff of the Forest Department, police officers, students and local residents.
The plantation drive emphasized the importance of ecological restoration and public participation in environmental protection.
Moreover, the 86 Battalion CRPF, Noney along with the Forest Department, District Administration and civil police also celebrated the 76th Van Mahotsav at Khumji 3, Noney today by planting about 200 tree saplings.
