Kuki Inpi, Tamenglong district and Jiri Zone, Manipur has urged the chief engineer of NF Railway, Silchar to change the nomenclature of "Dholakhal' railway station to Vangaichungpao railway station immediately in the interest of the local populace.
Along with other documents, the Kuki Inpi has submitted a representation to the CE, NFR, Silchar in this regard.
The Kuki Inpi pointed out that the proposed 'Dholakhal' railway station is situated within the jurisdiction of Vangaichungpao village under Tousem subdivision, Tamenglong district.
As such, naming the station as Vangaichungpao would be appropriate.
It also conveyed the readiness of the local populace for any agitation if the demand is not heeded positively.
Meanwhile, Vangaichungpao village chief has also warned of launching intense agitation if the railway station set up in the village is not named after the village.
Speaking to reporters during a press conference, Vangaichungpao village chief Seimang Chongloi said that Vangai Chungpao village was established in 1930 and consequently was registered officially in 1930 .
"Planning to name the railway station set up in the village as Dholakhal Railway Station is not acceptable.
We have urged the authority concerned regarding the matter numerous times in the past.
We would resort to intense agitation in case our demand is not met," he said.
Kuki Inpi, Tamenglong & Jiribam Zone president HK Jangsat Kuki said that villagers under the leadership of village chief Seimang Chongloi have extended cooperation in all the railway construction related works.
However, officials of Railway Department and authority concerned, without consulting with the village chief and the villagers, have planned to name the railway station as Dholakhal Railway Station.
Such step cannot be accepted.
As such, the authority concerned should look into the matter and resolve it immediately" .
