Imphal, October 24 2016:
In order to highlight the issue of encroachment into Manipur by Myanmar in Moreh area and the deplorable condition of Imphal-Dimapur highway to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a memorandum, Manipur National Democratic Front vice-presidents Bijoy Koijam and K Khagendra left Imphal for New Delhi today.
Speaking to media persons today about their trip to Delhi, MNDF president Ch Priyokumar said that Myanmar, taking advantage of the absence of proper border fence, has encroached 8/9 Kms inside the territory of Manipur.
On account of the encroachment, Indian citizens settled at the border area have been facing lots of troubles and this would create a serious internal security problem in the coming years, Priyokumar said.
The two MNDF leaders would also highlight to the Prime Minister the deplorable condition of Imphal-Jiribam highway particularly the dilapidated sections near Makru bridge which look like streams, he added.
MNDF spokesman Lien Gangte, while hailing the appointment of Prof Amar Yumnam as VC in-charge of Manipur University, urged the MU authority to commence the academic session for 2016-17 at the earliest.
He also condemned provocative speech made by Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang on the soil of Manipur.
Stating that TR Zeliang is ignorant about the history of Manipur, Lien Gangte denounced Zeliang's intervention in the internal affairs of Manipur.
