Imphal, November 23 2014:
Govern-ment's apathy is clearly evident in Tamenglong district's Khoupum area as the sub-division, which is located along Old Cachar road, has been reeling under power supply blackout since last Christmas.
According to the villagers of the native village of Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Khoupum sub-division has an electric transformer, which supplies power to 22 villages.
However, the transformer broke down last year due to overloading as the electric power-lines to Luwanglen Khulen, Nungba, Pungshang, Chingmei Kabui, Ragailong and Leishok villages were also connected to the same transformer by the department concerned, they added.
Saying that the villagers have been demanding replacement of the transformer with a greater capacity transformer, they said that the Government has remained deaf.
Meanwhile, Khangsillung Higher Secondary School of the sub-division is not functioning properly as no Government appointed teachers attend the school, the villagers said.
Although the school has an adequate number of teachers, they never come to the school, the villagers said.
Expressing deep concern over the Government's apathy towards the development of the area, the villagers questioned whether development works are meant only for Imphal areas.
They said that the sub-division, which is located around 80 km from Imphal, needs serious attention from the Government.
On the other hand, construction of Old Cachar road, popularly known as Tongjei Maril, is in full swing with funds from North Eastern Council (NEC) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) .
