Evils of drug abuse, alcohol discussed

Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) conducted a public hearing on the topic, 'Impact of drugs and other intoxicant substances used in Manipur' at Manipur Press Club today.
Judge (retired) of District and Sessions Court, Manipur East, Usham Kol, Judge (retired) of District and Sessions Court, Manipur West Kongrailatpam Bipinchandra Sharma were the juries of the public hearing.
LEIMAKOL president MC Rita spoke on the topic, 'Impact of alcohol on women and family' while former Project Director of MACS, Dr Lisam Khomdon spoke on the topic, 'Impact of drugs in Manipur' .
Professor of Psychiatry Department of RIMS, Dr RK Lenin, S Nimaichand of State Partner Tobacco Union, South East Asia, former SP Ningombam Bijoy, NCB North East Region PRO Ibungosana Ningthemcha and Associate Professor of LMS Law College also delivered speech at the public hearing.
CADA president Y Ratan said that it is questionable whether the various anti-psychotropic drug laws, enacted by the State and Central Governments, are strictly enforced or not.
Expressing concern over the involvement of high ranking civil and military officers in drug smuggling, he added that the recommendations of the hearing would be submitted to the State and Central Governments.
