Death of Yaiphaba Mutum : Bid to attack accused foiled

A large number of Singjamei locals today tried to attack the two persons accused in the death of Yaiphaba Mutum at Cheirap Court complex.
Since morning, a large number people from Singjamei Chingamakhong Chongtham Leikai and members of the JAC constituted against the incident gathered near the Court complex.
It may be mentioned that lifeless body of Yaiphaba Mutum (21) s/o Mutum Kohay of Singjamei Chingamakhong Chongtham Leikai was found floating in Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba on September 14 after he went out from his house the previous day.
Khuraijam Thoihen (22) and his younger brother Khuraijam Thoison (19) s/o Khuraijam Thanmi of Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai were pulled up by the police in connection with the incident.

However, the locals demanded the police to allow Yaiphaba's mother to witness the Court proceedings.
Although, the two brothers were brought by a large team of Imphal police, the locals and JAC members tried to attack the duo.
The angry locals forcefully got inside the complex and tried to break open the main door in their bid to enter the Court room.
However, the police personnel present at the site managed to disperse them and pushed them back for some distance.
After the arrival of an additional police team led by Imphal West Additional SP (Law and Order), the locals were driven outside the Court complex.
Later, the two accused were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West.
The IO of the case pleaded the Court for judicial custody remand of the two accused for 15 days.
However, the defence counsel filed objection and requested for bail.
After perusing the material on record and case diary, the Court remanded the duo to judicial custody till October 5 .
When the police tried to take the two brothers to a bulletproof police Gypsy after the Court proceedings, an elderly woman threw her slippers towards them while the angry locals who were gathering outside the Court complex tried to block the way of the police and even pelted stones at the bullet-proof Gypsy.
