Hearing of PIL against Transport Department fixed on January 29

Division Bench High Court of Manipur, yesterday, directed the counsels of Delhi police, Hyundai India Motors Limited and Toyota Kirloskat Private Limited, to submit their counter file before the Court for PIL hearing of the large scale fake registration of stolen vehicles in the State Transport Department .
As per a notice issued ( returnable within six weeks) by The Division Bench High Court of Manipur comprising of Acting Chief Justice N Kotiswar and Justice Kh Nobin issued a notice (returnable within 6 weeks) to all the respondents of the PIL which included the State of Manipur, represented by Chief Secretary of Manipur, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), DGP Manipur Police, Commissioner, Transport Department, Deputy Director (Administration) Transport Department, District Transport Officer Imphal West, Union of India represented by Ministry of Home Affairs, Commissioner Delhi Police and Managing Director of Hyundai India Motor Limited, Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited, SP Imphal West and OC, Imphal police station.
The Division Bench heard the counsel of the petitioner, Th Deepak, Advocate General N Kumarjit for the State as well as the counsels of the other respondents .
In the hearing, the Advocate General submitted that he has received necessary comments and prayed for some time to file affidavits as preparation is almost completed .
The Court allowed the prayer and accordingly listed January 29, next year, to enable the Advocate General to file the affidavit.
Division Bench, taking the matter seriously, directed the counsels of the other remaining respondents to submit their counter file and listed the matter for hearing on the same day as well (January 29) .
It may be mentioned that the PIL was filed by one Prasanta Oinam through his counsel Th Deepak before the High Court of Manipur and the Court admitted that PIL on October 25 .
The petitioner filed the PIL on behalf of the people of Manipur to stop the illegal practice of issuing registration number without proper verification and proper procedure and to punish the offender (s) involved in such activities .
It also mentioned that most of the vehicles, which are highly priced, are being used by influential people and prayed to the Court for ordering CBI to properly investigate the large scale fake registration of stolen vehicles in the State.
