17 Henglep villages set to see light

Imphal, December 14 2017:
For the first time, electricity would dawn on 17 villages of Henglep sub-division located about 86 Kms from Churachandpur district headquarters before this Christmas .
Out of the 86 villages of the sub-division, 28 villages were selected for installation of solar home lighting systems.
From amongst the 28 selected villages, 17 were shortlisted for installation of solar home lighting systems on priority basis .
The villages which are likely to see electricity for the first time before Christmas are Sanglen, Naopanglon, Bhumthubung, Phaibong, Khanpi, L Phailen, Mollon, Pheipi, Bolkot, Thangsei, Songkong, Kamkeilon, Kolchung, Chingmei Kuki, Gonekot, Lailong (L) and Lailong (S) .
Issuance of battery-less invertors, bulbs (four per household) and fan (one per household) to the 17 villages started from December 8.Installation of solar home lighting systems would begin from December 16 and electricity would be made available at these villages before Christmas, informed Henglep SDO Chunglenmang Kipgen .
Solar home lighting systems would be installed at the remaining villages too in the next phase, said the SDO .
In the absence of proper roads, it takes a day or two for one to march to these villages from Henglep sub-divisional headquarters.
A cement bag which costs Rs 440 at Churachandpur headquarters is sold at Rs 2850 at these villages after adding porters' charge.
Notably, Henglep sub-division was electrified only this year.
