Photo electoral rolls published for 60 ACs

Photo electoral rolls for all the 60 Assembly Constituencies of the State have been published today.
Errors, omissions and addition of photographs, if required, can be checked and corrected till January 11 .
Speaking to media persons at the Old Secretariat Conference Hall this afternoon , Chief Electoral Officer PC Lawmkunga said that the total number of electors in the State is 17,40,820 with women comprising 8,89,497 and male voters constituting 8,51,323 .
The total number of voters has increased by 1,01,820 from January 1 last year where the number of voters stood at 16,39,000 .
Attachment of photographs in photo electoral rolls has been completed by 97.44 per cent while preparation of elector photo identity cards has been completed by 95 per cent.
The CEO said that all efforts are being put in to complete the work of attaching photographs to electoral rolls by 100 per cent before the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Voters who have their names in the photo electoral rolls but no photographs or both can make necessary corrections and addition till January 11, the last day for filing nomination papers.
Attachment of photographs in photo electoral rolls has been 100 per cent completed for the Assembly segments of Khundrakpam, Heingang, Khurai, Lamlai, Yaiskul, Wangkhem, Lamsang, Kakching, Hiyanglam, Sugnu and Wabagai, informed the CEO.
Around 13,000 polling personnel would be deployed in 2357 polling stations spread across the State, and 4500 EVMs would be used in the Assembly elections.
Even though January 6 and 9 are holidays on account of Emoinu Day and Maharaj Gambhir Singh death anniversary respectively, candidates may file nomination papers on these days too, stated the CEO.
Altogether 280 companies of central para military forces and 70 companies of State armed police from Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Orissa and Jharkhand would be used in the single phase elections.
Informing that the police headquarters have drawn up plans for the deployment of security forces, the CEO said that 200 companies of central para military forces would arrive at Imphal on January 20 .
Income Tax officials would monitor poll expenditure have already arrived at Imphal.
A room in Imphal Hotel would be allotted to the Income Tax officials to serve as their control room and they would start their duty from tomorrow.
To a query about the Assembly constituencies which made the highest expenditures during the last elections, the CEO quoting reports submitted by DCs, informed that Tamei, Tamenglong, Nungba and Tengnoupal ACs made the highest expenditures.
To another query about yesterday's firing incident at Kairang, Lawmkunga District Magistrates have asked all licensed gun holders to deposit their arms in police stations.
If any complaint is received or the same incident is published in the media, necessary actions would be initiated, the CEO stated.
