Haipou Jadonang remembered

The Rongmei Phwam Guwahati (RPG) organised a colloquium titled "The significance of Haipou Jadonang's legacy in today's context" on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of Haipou Jadonang Martyrdom Day yesterday.
The event took place at Rongkai, longkhuli, and attracted attendees from various backgrounds who gathered to commemorate the enduring impact of one of the Naga's most revered leaders, said RPG in a statement.
Haipou Jadonang was a prominent Rongmei Naga leader, spiritual figure, and social and political reformer who dedicated his life to liberating the Naga people from British colonial rule during the early 20th century.
He led the movement for establishing Makamv Guanghdi (Kingdom of Naga) as an independent, which eventually led to his execution by hanging on August 29, 1931 in Imphal by the British.
Jadonang Parade, a short film showcasing Jadonang's life, and musical performance featuring the Zuk Neypui Lu (Jadonang's song of prayer for the new age) and Rongmei Chapriak Lu (folk song) were showcased at the event.
Discussions centred on Jadonang's legacy and its relevance to contemporary society, promoting dialogue on the importance of upholding unity, cultural identity, and social integration among the Rongmei people.
Retired IRS officer Gaigongdin Panmei, Addl DG Directorate of Revenue Intelligence Machunlung Kamei, Assistant Professor and Asst Dean of Student Affairs at The Assam Royal Global University Kadiguang Panmei and many other eminent personalities attended the event.
Makaam Foundation
The 94th Martyrdom Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was also observed by the Makaam Foundation on Friday through a webinar with participants from different walks of life.
The program began with two minutes of silence and a floral tribute to the great patriot and martyr who sacrificed his life at the altar of freedom.
The event was led by Lungzang Timothy Longmei.
The keynote address on the life and vision of Jadonang was delivered by Mathiupang Gonmei, social worker and chairperson of Makaam Foundation.
