Imphal, January 24 2026:
Laying blame on the husband's family for the tragic death of Leikhuram ningol Naoroibam ongbi Sanahanbi, a sit-in protest held at Kongpal Khaidem Leikai Primary School ground has demanded swift arrest and punishment for the culprits.
The 34 year old wife of Naoroibam Ningthem from Mayang Langjing Taning allegedly left home on the intervening night of January 16 and 17.Her dead body was recovered from a pond in Taning Makha Leikai six days later on January 22.She hailed from Kongpal.
According to Bimola Lukram, general secretary, Puri Puraba Nupi Lup, Sanahanbi's family was informed about her dis- appearance and they also came across posts about Sanahanbi going missing on social media.
Prior to January 16, the deceased woman had reportedly pleaded with her mother, Laikhuram Bimola, over the phone to come and take her home as she could no longer bear the abuse and torture inflicted on her.
At the time, her husband Ningthem was away in Gujarat for work.
As he returned home after a few days, Sanahanbi's mother assumed everything would be fine and did not act on her daughter's request, said Bimola Lukram.
"On the contrary, the family, including her husband, colluded in the torture and killing of Sanahanbi", accused the general secretary.
As "proof of torture and murder", she said Sanahanbi's body should have decomposed after remaining in the pond water for 6 days, but that was not the case.
Sanahanbi's body will not be claimed until the culprits responsible for her death are apprehended by the police and punished, she maintained.
Bimola also addressed the unsavoury comments made by people on social media over Sanhanbi's disappearance.
She urged the public to refrain from posting such objectionable statements without first verifying the truth.
The sit-in protest was jointly organised by Kongpal Social Development Organisation, Puri Puraba Nupi Lup and Kongpal Kongkham Leikai.
