Imphal, July 20 2025: The significant change being witnessed among men and women of the state in wearing locally made garments instead of imported ones is not only good but will also help improve the local economy, stated Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameswar Meetei.

For the third time, MLA Rameswar distributed looms to weavers of Keirao assembly constituency under MANITEX scheme of handloom & textiles, Government of Manipur on Sunday.

Addressing weavers at the distribution event held at Lilong Meetei Lamkhai, MLA Rameswar said there has been significant reduction in use of imported garments among men and women of the state in the last few years.

It is good sign that men and women of the state prefer local made garments than imported garments or cloths, he said and appealed to the people to promote the habit of using local garments than imported ones.

According to MLA Rameswar, as use of locally produced items will help in enhancing economy of the state in a significant way, people should contribute their mite in promoting a vibrant economy by using not only garments but also other products.

He further said that distribution of looms for weavers of Keirao AC was conducted twice in the past out of government's selection of 700 weavers of the constituency under the MANITEX scheme.

The MLA assured the weavers that work space would be facilitated at Kyamgei Shantipur agro market, which is under construction with NEC funding.
