Remanded for cyber crime

The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal West today remanded 32-year-old Leishangthem Amarjeet of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai to the custody of the Cyber Crime Police Station, Manipur.
Amarjeet has been accused of uploading obscene photos of a woman on social media platform Facebook.
He was arrested yesterday in connection with the case.
The accused was produced before the Court by a team of the Cyber Crime police station, Manipur, along with a plea for police custody remand.
What Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) says The victim lodged a written complaint on December 26, last year.
In the complaint, the victim stated that she had become acquainted with the accused in August 2023 through Facebook.
The two exchanged contact numbers and eventually became friends.
The victim further mentioned that Amarjeet had informed her that he was married with two children.
However, in December 2024, Amarjeet's wife allegedly eloped with another person, and the victim became emotionally attached to him, considering his children.
In September 2025, the victim developed relationship with Amarjeet, the APP said.
However, upon checking Amarjeet's mobile phone, the victim discovered that he had been engaging in sexually explicit chats with several women on Facebook Messenger and this caused her to become worried, and she distanced herself from him.
On December 17, 2025, the victim informed Amarjeet that she no longer wished to continue their relationship.
In response, Amarjeet allegedly threatened to upload their intimate photos and videos on social media if she refused to continue.
On December 23, 2025, Amarjeet reportedly uploaded nude videos and photos as his WhatsApp status.
The following morning, on December 26, 2025, the victim's cousin informed her that her obscene photos had been uploaded on Amarjeet's Facebook account.
Although the photos were later deleted from his account, a case was registered for investigation.
During the investigation, Amarjeet was arrested, and five mobile phones were seized from his possession.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that he had recorded the victim's intimate videos during their relationship and subsequently uploaded them on social media.
However, the alleged accused is reportedly concealing material facts related to the case.
The prosecution argued that his custody is crucial for a thorough investigation, including the recovery and analysis of digital devices, collection of electronic evidence, and establishing the full chain of events related to the transmission of obscene content on social media.
After hearing the submissions of the APP and reviewing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to police custody, till January 19, 2026, to facilitate further investigation.
