Imphal, October 13 2025:
The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has called on the Government to suspend Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof N Lokendra.
Addressing the media at Khuyathong, KSA president S Bidyananda alleged that Statute 19 (2) of Manipur University was controversially amended in 2014 during an Executive Council meeting, when Prof N Lokendra, then Registrar, served as the Secretary of the Executive Council.
He alleged that there were discrepancies in the content and heading of the composition of the Selection Committee for certain Statutory Posts (Registar and Finance) in the amended Statute 19(2), necessitating an inquiry.
He further stated that amending any statute of Manipur University requires approval from both Houses of Parliament and a Gazette notification as per Section 46(1) of the MU Act.
However, the proposal for the amendment was never passed in the Parliament.
and the Gazette notification was published only on March 18, 2025, he claimed.
He further claimed that Prof Lokendra is using the composition of the Selection Committee to suit his preferences.
Alleging irregularities in the recent recruitment of the Registrar and Finance Officer, he claimed that the Vice Chancellor, despite being the Chairman of the Selection Committee, also listed himself as the Head of the Dept/Institution, thereby securing two voting rights in the Selection Committee.
Further noting that a Court case is ongoing regarding the Registrar's appointment, he questioned the fate of candidates in the current recruitment process if the Court cancels the Registrar's appointment.
