2 die after consuming spurious liquor

Kakching, July 13 2024: Two elderly brothers died and a third person was hospitalised after consuming spurious liquor at Kakching yesterday.

The deceased brothers have been identified as Yengkhom Ibomcha (82) and Yengkhom Niladhaja (74) of Kakching Chumnang Samballei Pareng, and the other person who is undergoing treatment has been identified as Naorem Ibo-tombi (75) from the same locality.

The three elderly persons were consuming alcohol in the evening at around 7.40 yesterday when their health suddenly deteriorated leading to the death of Yeng- khom Ibomcha and Yeng-khom Niladhaja.

Naorem Ibotombi was rushed to Jivan Hospital Kakching.

His condition has improved and is stable.

He is being kept in the Observation Room, said the hospital today.

Meanwhile, a plastic bottle and the content of which they consumed yesterday has been recovered by the police for examination in the laboratory.

Kakching police have registered a case, and postmortems of the two deceased have been conducted at JNIMS Hospital, Porompat.
