Imphal, September 12 2026:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged the Government to release the pending stipends of research scholars of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) at the earliest.
In a statement, AMSU said that DMU still lags behind in many areas and lacks the facilities expected of a University.
Moreover, the research scholars of the University do not receive any assistance from the Government, it claimed.
Further alleging that the university lacks basic research facilities, the Union said that 792 research scholars from the 2022, 2024 and 2026 batches are still not being provided with the basic research facilities required by their respective departments in full.
Universities in other States are competing to promote quality research, but at DMU even research scholars are not getting stipends let alone provide them with basic research facilities, AMSU alleged.
Emphasising the importance of research in fields ranging from politics and economics to science, it urged the Government to take necessary steps to safeguard the intellectual future of the State and encourage research scholars.
AMSU, meanwhile, said that it supports the movement of DMU research scholars seeking the release of their stipends.
Urging the Government to release the stipends, the Union cautioned that intensified protests would be staged in coordination with the DMU Students' Union if its demand is not addressed.
