Symposium sheds light on aspects of gender-based violence

As part of the observance of Forensic Medicine Day, the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, RIMS, Imphal, organised a symposium on "Gender-Based Violence" at Banting Hall, RIMS, Imphal.
The event was graced by Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS; Prof Th Meera Devi, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology; and Dr B Praveen Reddy, Principal of the Dental College, as presidium members.
At the event, Prof N Sanjib Singh said, "I commend the Forensic Medicine team for their crucial role in documenting and investigating such cases" .
"Gender-based violence, including domestic abuse, dowry bums, and acid attacks, remains largely hidden, and it is our duty as forensic experts to uncover the truth.
Let us all take action to fight for justice and dignity for everyone, ensuring proper documentation and support for victims", he added.
The symposium served as an important platform to shed light on various aspects of gender-based violence, bringing together distinguished speakers and medical professionals to discuss the critical issue.
It featured two key presentations: "Gender-Based Violence: An Overview", which explored the forms, causes, and legal implications of such violence, and "Gender-Based Violence: A Gynaecological Perspective", which highlighted the challenges faced by gynecologists in treating survivors and the need for empathetic, trauma-informed care.
