Salutes paid to soldiers of Manipur

Imphal, October 10 2025: Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla stated that Manipur has produced numerous brave soldiers in the armed forces who have served the Nation with honour and courage.

The Governor felicitated 18 gallantry award winners from Manipur including battle casualties and presented cash awards to them during a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, today.

The soldiers felicitated were Shaurya Chakra recipients - Major Maneo Francis (Para SF) and Subedar P Prabin Singha (Artillery); Vir Chakra - Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik (Indian Air Force); Constable (Late) Deepak Chingakham, Border Security Force (BSF); Sena Medal - Lieutenant Colonel K Bijayendra Sharma (Army Aviation Squadron UH), Lieutenant Colonel Mutum Ajoy Meitei (Ladak Scouts), Major S Maningba Rangnamei (Bihar Regiment), (Major Sougrakpam Rishikesh Singh (Engineers); Lieutenant Colonel Kh Shem (SM, JAT), Major Lalngaisang Vaiphei (ECIB), Major Sushrujen Pangeijam (Assam Rifles), Major Irengbam Vishal (J&K Rifles), Havildar Prakash Chhetri ( Para SF), Naik L Machinmi, (Para SF); Battle Casualties - Major (Late) M Pritam Singh (5 Mahar, Borders), CFN (Late) Wakambam Peter Singh (EME); Vishisht Seva Medal - Lieutenant Colonel Lemjoy Chara (Army Medical Corps) (and Mention in Despatches - Naik M Rangayung (PARA SF).

Addressing the function, the Governor said that brave soldiers from Manipur continue to demonstrate extraordinary valour and selfless service in the line of duty, serving in challenging terrains like the snow-capped Siachen, Kargil, North East India, and international peacekeeping missions.

Uniforms aren't just about profession, they symbolize responsibility, he said and reiterated that Manipur has produced countless bravehearts who have served the Tricolour with unmatched pride.

The ceremony was also attended by Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, GoC of 57 Mountain Division Major General SS Kartikeya, IGAR (South) Major General Ravroop Singh and civil and police officials among others.
