Imphal, June 10 2013: Asserting that there was no final ruling of the Supreme Court on May 15 that prohibits the conduct of Common Entrance Test for medical studies by any State as cited by the State Government in its order that cancelled the conduct of PMT in State, the All Manipur MBBS/BDS 2013 Entrance Exam Parents'/Guardians' Association has urged the authority concerned to conduct PMT by reviewing the decision that led to the cancellation of the exam.

A statement issued to the press by the secretary of All Manipur MBBS/BDS 2013 Entrance Exam Parents/Guardians' Association, K Arun Meitei strongly posited that there was no ruling of the Supreme Court on May 15 that prohibited the conduct of CET by the State as cited by the Government while contending that the Govt is deceiving the people of the State through its notification dated 7/6/2013 .

It also warned of launching various forms of agitation if the plea to review the Govt decision that cancelled CET 2013 is not heard.

Further citing that several medical colleges included in the lists of NEET like Sikkim Manipal University and Tripura Medical College have been conducting separate test, the statement said there is no problem for the State to conduct PMT.

Demanding the Health Directorate to produce the Supreme Court ruling of May 15 to the public, the statement said the Health Director and concerned Minister should be construed as openly deceiving the people if they failed to produce the apex Court's ruling they cited in the notification, it said.

There is also every reason that the Health Director and concerned Minister should resign from their respective posts for ruining the career of many students, it stated.

Contrary to the reported statement of Health Director who said that 90 percent of the State PMT applicants have appeared in the NEET exam, it has been found that only 14 percent of the State PMT applicants had appeared in the NEET, the statement pointed out.

The career of many students is at stake due to the ruthless decision taken by the State Cabinet, it alleged while urging the concerned authority to conduct the MBBS/BDS entrance exam immediately so as to save the career of many students.

It warned that the association would resort to taking up courses of agitation including legal procedure against the concerned authority in collaboration with like-minded social organisations if the exam is not conducted at the earliest.

At the same time, the All Manipur MBBS/BDS 2013 Entrance Exam Parents/Guardians' Association has also submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary, Cabinet Secretary and the Director of Health Services in this regard.

Pointing out that medical entrance exam was conducted in Puducherry on June 2, Tripura on May 26 and Sikkim on May 25, the representation said that there is no any interim order prohibiting the conduct of entrance exam by any State/UT in the country while adding that there is no reason why the exam should not be held in the State too.

"The decision of the Cabinet referred to in the Govt notification is too arbitrary, malafide and devoid of merit," the association asserted while demanding review of the same in public interest to avoid resultant consequences to all concerned.

In some States, a notification has been issued giving prior information that medical entrance exam should not be conducted.

But in the case of the State, no such notification was issued, it said while strongly demanding the holding of CET.
