Imphal, June 10 2013:
Former Finance Minister Chungkhokai Doungel has emerged as the front-runner to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency on NCP ticket with no other than the State unit Nationalist Congress party (NCP) president MLA L ibomcha confirming that discussions are on to field C Doungel as the party nominee for the 2014 hustings.
C Doungel was briefly associated with the State unit Trinamool Congress as an executive member before parting ways and joining the NCP fold where he is presently advisor cum executive member.
Speaking at the 15th foundation anniversary celebration of NCP at its Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai State unit office today, L Ibomcha disclosed that based on the intimation from party's central leaders, C Doungel has been recommended to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election, which is most likely to be held next year.
Along with recommending Doungel and presentation of relevant details (biodata) the only reason for the delay in formally declaring the former Minister as the party candidate for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat is the official approval of NCP central leaders, said the State unit chief who also revealed that C Doungel's election campaign has already started as the State unit's choice is certain to get the green signal from the NCP high command.
Revealing that NCP is unlikely to nominate candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat, he expressed confidence that the party's high command will issue directives on supporting candidate of other political party or striking alliance with like-minded political organisations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Asserting that NCP's objective is to promote effective administration and check corruption, the lone party MLA in the State said even if corruption could not be wiped out entirely NCP will take all possible measures to curb administrative and financial malpractices.
Apparently hinting at administrative inefficiency of the present Government, he said Keishamthong AC public have no access to potable water even though the same essential commodity could be availed if one is willing to spent more.
Contrary to only four hours of water supply in a week individual consumer have to pay Rs 150 tax, claimed the MLA who opined that existence of water pipes is irrelevant if regular water supply cannot be ensured.
Speaking on the occasion, c Doungel branding the Congress regime as infectiously corrupt, deceptive and regressive opined that the rich getting wealthier contrary to poor families struggling to earn two square meals a day testify incompassionate administration.
A number of NCP State unit functionaries also spoke on the occasion.
