Imphal, October 19 2026:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and the People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) have condemned the killing of three civilians who had gone to collect firewood at Khongbal Sunurok Uyok.
Addressing the media at his residence at Yairipok Bishnunaha today, Congress Legislature Party leader K Meghachandra said that Chief Minister Y Khemchand should resign on moral grounds, alleging that he had failed to ensure the safety of the people.
He claimed that an IRB post at Khamenlok was removed recently despite opposition from local residents.
Pointing out that three civilians were killed at Khongbal Sunurok Uyok today and another person was killed at Khangabok last night, he said that the BJP Government had failed to take any worthwhile measures to restore normalcy in the State.
PDA president Y Joykumar, on behalf of his party, also condemned the killing of the three civilians at Khongbal Sunurok Uyok.
He said that PDA representatives had visited those injured in the attack and provided financial assistance to the victims.
Stating that incidents of killing, arson and attacks on civilians continue unabated in Manipur, he alleged that the actions of Kuki militants have crossed all limits.
He urged the State Government to exert pressure on the Central leadership to abrogate the SoO pact with Kuki armed groups and take action against their cadres involved in criminal activities.
Joykumar also alleged that Kuki armed groups are being protected by Central forces.
He further claimed that the husband of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen is the president of KNF-P, a group allegedly involved in attacks and killings of civilians.
Restoring normalcy in Manipur would remain elusive as long as Kuki armed groups continue to act with impunity, he said.
