Lok Adalat settles Rs 2.63 crore cases

The second National Lok Adalat for the calendar year, 2025 held on May 10 settled Rs 2.63 crore cases.
The Lok Adalat, conducted at the High Court of Manipur and all District Courts across the State, settled a total of 236 cases with a settlement amount of Rs 2,63,46,355 .
The Lok Adalats were organised by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in association with the High Court Legal Services Committee and District Legal Services Authorities.
High Court Judges, Justice A Bimol Singh, A Guneshwar Sharma and MASLSA Member Secretary Alek Muivah visited a sitting of the National Lok Adalat at Lamphel Court Complex.
Addressing members of the media at the Lamphel Court Complex, Justice A Bimol Singh stated that a total of 3,043 cases comprising both pre-litigation matters and civil cases pending adjudication before the Courts were listed for amicable settlement in the Lok Adalat held across the State today.
The cases included matrimonial disputes, bank recovery cases, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases, Negotiable Instrument Act cases, land acquisition cases, electricity and water bill cases and telephone bill related matters.
Justice Bimol said that any award or order passed by the Lok Adalat is deemed final and binding on the parties, and no appeal shall lie before any Court against the same.
He highlighted that traditional litigation entails considerable expenditure of time and financial resources, whereas disputes brought before the Lok Adalat are resolved expeditiously and without incurring such costs.
He urged the general public to make use of this alternative dispute resolution mechanism by presenting their pending as well as prelitigation matters before appropriate District Legal Services Authority or Court so that the same may be listed for amicable settlement during the next National Lok Adalat, scheduled to be held on September 13.Y Rother, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West; Monalisa Maibam, Special Judge (ND&PS), Manipur and Sorokhaibam Sadananda, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East presided as Chairpersons of three benches of the National Lok Adalat held at Lamphel Court Complex.
