"Nurses are backbone of healthcare", says Dr Palin at Nurses Day meet

In celebration of International Nurses Day 2026, a significant State-Level Conference was held today at the SJ Auditorium, Itocha Block, Shija Hospital, Langol.
The conference, themed "Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives", was jointly organised by the ADHOC Committee, TNAI Manipur State Branch, Shija Academy of Nursing and the Nursing Department, Shija Hospital.
The conference was attended by dignitaries, including Dr Kh Palin, Chairman cum Managing Director of Shija Hospitals & Research Institute; Prof Th Nandarani Devi, National Vice President, TNA/NER; Dr A Jamuna Devi, Registrar of Manipur Nursing Council; K Ranjita Devi, Deputy Director (Nursing), Directorate of Health Services, Manipur; and Dr Ch Babita Devi, Principal of Shija Academy of Nursing.
Speaking at the event, Dr Palin said nursing services are the backbone of the healthcare system.
"Progress in healthcare is impossible without the nursing profession", he said.
He added that the future transformation of healthcare in Manipur lies in the hands of its nurses.
"Nurses must be strong, knowledgeable, and highly competent to effectively save lives", Dr Palin said.
The conference noted that nurses spend about 75% of their time in direct patient care and enjoy the highest level of public trust.
This underlines their vital role in treatment and recovery, organisers said.
