Imphal, May 05 2016:
The Joint Administrative Council of all the passenger and commercial vehicles (below 15 tonnes) has decided to suspend services with effect from 1 am of May 6 .
In a statement, the JAC said that they were compelled to take the decision as the Transport Department has failed to revoke its decision of imposing one-time tax on these vehicles.
After a joint meeting was held at Manipur Press Club on April 27, the JAC, which is an umbrella body of around 90 transport societies and associations have been urging the Transport Department to revoke their decision.
However, the Department has not given any response till date, the statement said.
Urging all the transporters and drivers to suspend service from 1 am of May 6 in protest against the Department's silence, the JAC said that the defiant drivers and transporters must be held responsible for any eventuality on their own.
