Cops formally arrest 2012 bomb blast accused

Singjamei police station has made formal arrest of an accused allegedly involved in a bomb attack at the residential gate of ex-Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Irengbam Hemochandra of Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai on January 22, 2012.One person was killed and five others sustained injuries in the bomb attack carried out by unknown persons, suspected to be militants.
Accused Nameirakpam Dhamen alias Meitei 49 s/o (L) Koireng of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai, at present staying at Khudekpi Mamang Leikai, was formally arrested after taking permission from the Court concerned.
He is presently lodged in judicial custody in connection with an FIR case registered at Kumbi police station.
Nameirakpam Dhamen was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West along with a prayer for police custody remand for investigation of the case.
An APP for the State submitted that at around 6.35 pm on January 22, 2012, Singjamei police received information about a bomb blast at the residence of the ex-Speaker Irengbam Hemochandra of Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai at around 6.30 pm .
Maisnam Ratan (33) s/o (L) Ibotombi of Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai succumbed to injuries on the spot while five others sustained injuries in the bomb attack.
After registering a suo moto case at Singjamei police station, police launched an investigation into the case.
During the course of investigation, a message was received that a suspect, self styled Captain of PREPAK Nameirakpam Dhamen was arrested by a team of Phougakchao Ikhai police station in connection with an FIR case.
As the accused is suspected to be involved in the present case, Singjamei police station made formal arrest of the accused in order to ascertain the facts and circumstances of the present case.
The APP prayed the Court to remand the accused in police custody for smooth investigation of the case.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused in police custody till July 8 .
