World Press Freedom Day observed

Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), AMWJU and EGM jointly observed World Press Freedom Day 2026 at DIPR auditorium today.
The function held under the theme "Shaping a Future of Peace" was graced by IPR Director Dr Th Charanjeet, AMWJU president Asem Bhakta and EGM president Khogendra Khomdram as presidium members.
Speaking at the gathering, Dr Th Charanjeet said that today is a day dedicated to upholding freedom of press and honouring all those journalists who have died in the line of duty.
He appealed to the journalist fraternity of Manipur to shoulder key responsibility toward restoring peace in the State.
Khogendra Khomdram said that the freedom of press is not limitless.
Freedom of press should be interpreted as performing one's duty with responsibility, he said.
Khogendra Khomdram said that the primary duty of the press is to present truthful and accurate news to the public.
The EGM president also underlined the crucial role of Editors in carefully examining news contents and deciding whether they are suitable for publication in the interest of the general public.
