Imphal, September 02 2024:
Many organisations have strongly condemned the terror attack carried out by Kuki militants using weaponized drones which killed an innocent woman and injured her minor daughter at Koutruk yesterday.
The Mumbai Manipuri Solidarity Group, a group of Manipuri diaspora in Mumbai said the act of terror and the use of drones to bomb civilians not only represents a new level of brutality but also highlights a disturbing tactic of prolonging the crisis for strategic gain.
"It is clear that the Kuki militants are using violence to perpetuate instability.
This calculated attack on civilians underscores their intent to keep the conflict alive for their benefits.
Such actions are a gross violation of human rights and an abuse of power," it said.
The Indian Army, Paramilitary Forces and the Manipur police should intervene and hold those responsible accountable instead of playing the role of a bystander, it added.
The Mumbai Manipuri Solidarity Group also expressed solidarity and expressed deepest sympathies for the victims and their families.
It may be mentioned that Angom Surbala, a married woman was killed and her minor daughter was injured in a terror attack carried out by Kuki militants at Koutruk yesterday.
The Kuki militants used drones to bomb civilians and burnt down at least 5 houses and several vehicles.
The Meitei Heritage Society has also vehemently condemned the terror attack.
The bombing of villagers by Kuki militants is a clear act of terror.
The use of weaponized drones, a tactic and technology previously unseen in the conflict, demonstrates the militants' intent to inflict maximum harm and terrorise the Meitei population, it said.
The latest Kuki militants' attack is not an isolated case but a pattern that they have adopted over the last 1 year to escalate violence, to advance their openly declared goal to break Manipur, it added.
The Union Home Minister and the Indian security forces should take swift and decisive action to neutralise Kuki militant groups responsible for these heinous acts and protect the lives and property of Manipuris, it said.
It also urged the Government to abrogate the Suspension of Operations with the Kuki militant groups, which provide them immunity to attack Meitei civilians.
The Kuki militant groups involved must be declared as terrorist groups, it added.
The Meitei Alliance also condemned the heinous terror attack yesterday, and said the terrorists must be held accountable, and the Government must take concrete actions.
Other organisations including the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Indigenous Mothers Association Haomee (IMAH) and Manipur Women's Federation (MWF) have also condemned the terror attack yesterday and urged the Government to take decisive action against Kuki militants.
The organisations denounced some Central forces for remaining a bystander without taking any action against the Kuki militants.
They alleged that the heinous terror attack on the village was "allowed" to be carried out despite the presence of over 60,000 strong Central security forces.
Many social activists including Haobijam Geetchandra too have condemned the attack and the killing of the woman.
