Campaign for sufficient food production ends

The month-long campaign for self reliance in food production organised by All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association concluded today at Nongpok Ningthou Club ground, Ukhongshang Maning Leikai.
Speaking at the function, special invitee, Y Nabachandra, UCM president said that the stability of the economy would be decided by the total production.
People of the State are solely dependent on imported goods and commodities.
Therefore, self reliance in food production is necessary.
Stressing the important roles played by the farmers, AMPFA president Joy Nongmaithem said moulding sportspersons at the cost of sacrificing vast tract of agricultural land at Yaithibi Loukon could not be accepted.

It is evident that the Government is more concerned in producing sportspersons than feeding its people, he said.
Vast areas of agricultural land were lost for setting up Loktak Project by the State Government.
However, people still could not get adequate power supply.
Candles can substitute electric bulbs but there is no substitution for food, he added.
The function was also attended by Retd Director of Research CAU, Dr Rohini Kumar Singh, Thangjam Devi, councillor, ward number 9, Thoubal district and Thokchom Angangmacha Devi, councillor, ward number 8, Thoubal district.
