First ever Christmas Carnival in Chandel garners Rs 27 lakh in revenue

Chandel, December 18 2018: The first ever Chandel Christmas Carnival ended on a high note on Saturday with the event garnering revenue of about Rs 27 lakh in just four days from as many as 15 stalls that were set up doing the carnival.

"The whole carnival was beyond what we expected.

As optimistic as we were considering the response we got from the public, revenue of Rs 27 lakh is great for a start," said Maxwell Saka, convenor of the carnival.

The Christmas carnival which began on December 12 saw 15 stalls comprising of clothe stalls, cosmetics, food and even books stalls.

Families and friends, numbering in thousands, visited the stalls and enjoyed the services provided.

"This was the first of its kind in the district and it was a great move by the organisers.

The prices at the carnival were reasonable and everything was made available in one place, which made the carnival all the more exciting and interesting," said a visitor.

Another visitor, who visited the carnival with his family praised the organisers of the event.

The event gave his family a quality time to spend together and share something new and different, the man said.

The entrepreneurs and business persons of the district who had opened up their stalls to the visitors also praised the organisers and hope for more such event in the future.

"The Carnival gave me the right platform to advertise my store and the clothes that I sell," said Judith Khumlo who had opened up a new store in September in Chandel.

Her collections, mainly for children, were one of the main attractions as it was Christmas time and children were after new clothes.

"I didn't expect to do this well but the sales and the revenue that I have collected in just four days is something beyond I can imagine," Judith said and thanked the organisers of the event.

Pepela Ruwngtol, proprietor of P&P Cosmetic Collections, was also full of praise for the event and the organisers.

"My shop is just close by but I thought why not try it and I don't regret my decision.

The sales have been great and I am very happy with it," Pepela said.

She also suggested that the event is organised again next year with better preparation and maintenance.

Rocky Monsang, who opened a stall - Foodie Nations, is very happy with the carnival.

"It was good to see the carnival organised in the district.

Chandel is not much of a happening place when it comes to such events but the organisers have pulled off it so well.

Kudos to them," he said.

With sales and revenues from single stalls hitting Rs 20,000 per day, Maxwell Saka, the convenor said it is their target to hit a revenue collection of Rs 1 crore next year.

"Next year, we might just hit the Rs 1 crore revenue," said an optimistic Maxwell.

Bs Ngamshel, co-convenor of the Chandel Christmas Carnival is also optimistic it would be much better and bigger next year.

"When we planned and started it, we were not sure how the public would respond.

The first of its kind in the district and though we expected people to respond, the final outcome has been amazing and we, the organisers, are encouraged to make it bigger and better next year," Bs Ngamshel said.
