Students sensitized on Sangai conservation at Toubul Govt High School

As part of the year-long School Students Sensitization Program on Sangai, a special awareness session was successfully held today at Toubul Government High School, organised by the Sangai First Foundation (SFF), Manipur.
The programme was graced by Khumanthem Nishikanta, Headmaster of Toubul High School; Dr Khangembam Shamungou, Managing Trustee of Sangai First Foundation; Thoudam Rachandra, Retired Headmaster, Oinam High School; Thoudam Jhalajit, and Elangbam Premjit, Trustee of Sangai First Foundation, as members of the presidium.
In his welcome address, Budha Khwairakpam, secretary of SFF, warmly greeted the gathering and highlighted the objectives of the sensitization programme - to deepen students' understanding of the Sangai deer, its significance, and the conservation of its only natural habitat, the Keibul Lamjao Floating National Park, the world's only floating national park.
Delivering the keynote speech, Dr.Khangembam Shamungou spoke on the socio-economic and cultural importance of the Sangai and the impact of habitat destruction on its survival.
He urged students to uphold Manipur's rich legacy of biodiversity and presented his self-authored books to the school library to support further learning and research.
A spot quiz competition was also conducted, engaging 47 students, of whom ten were declared winners.
These winners will be felicitated during the upcoming 2nd Sangai Day Celebration scheduled for December 10, 2025, at Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirangkhunou.
In his closing remarks, Khumanthem Nishikanta, Headmaster, expressed sincere gratitude to the Sangai First Foundation for selecting Toubul High School as a part of this meaningful awareness initiative.
The Foundation further announced that a District Level Competition titled "Yarou Sangai 2025" will be held on November 9, 2025, at Bishnupur Higher Secondary School, as a preevent to the 2nd Sangai Day observation.
The Sangai First Foundation, Manipur, appealed for the continued cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure the success of these
important conservation-driven events.
