5 including woman held with WY tablets

Imphal, August 25 2025: Security forces arrested five including a woman and seized 2.315 kilograms of WY (Methamphetamine) tablets on August 23.The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Mustakim (39), Md Arif (20), Md Ajit (32), Ruhima (26) and Md Baboy alias Yahiya Khan (35).Md Mustakim and Md Baboy are habitual offenders.

They were earlier arrested by the Assam police for smuggling contraband items, said the police.

All of the five arrested individuals have been remanded to police custody till September 3 for further investigation.

Md Mustakim and Md Arif hail from Lilong Ushoipokpi Thararok.

Md Ajit and Ruhima hail from Lilong Makha Leikai.

Md Baboy alias Yahiya Khan hails from Kyamgei Mamang Leikai.

The five were arrested during an operation carried out by a joint team of the Thoubal district police, CRPF and BSF personnel in the wee hours of August 23.The operation was launched following specific information about the presence of a huge quantity of contraband items in Lilong Ushoipokpi area, said a souree.

During the search operation, security forces found 2.27 kilograms of World is Yours (WY) Methamphetamine tablets hidden at the residence of Md Mustakim at Lilong Ushoipokpi.

This discovery of 2.27 kilograms of WY tablets led to the arrest of four individuals including Md Mustakim, Md Arif, Md Ajit and Ruhima and further seizure of additional 45 grams of WY tablets from the residence of Md Baboy at Kyamgei Mamang Leikai.

With the seizure of 45 grams of WY tablets, Md Baboy was arrested from his residence.

From the possession of the five individuals, the security forces also seized 6 mobile handsets, multiple account ledgers and diaries, 2 four-wheeler vehicles including one Duster with Manipur registration number and an Alto car with Assam registration number and 120 empty plastic containers-all linked to the trafficking of drugs.

The arrested persons along with seized drugs and other items were handed over to the Lilong police.

Police said Md Mustakim and Md Baboy are habitual offenders with a history of prior arrests.

Md Mustakim was earlier arrested by the Assam Police in 2022 at Guwahati for smuggling 205 soap cases of heroin powder.

He was sent to Assam jail and released on bail in January 2025.Md Baboy was earlier arrested by the Assam Police in 2020 at Guwahati for smuggling 7000 WY tablets.

He was sent to judicial custody, and was released from the Assam Jail on bail in January 2023, said the police.

Meanwhile, all the five persons have been produced before the Duty Magistrate, Thoubal, and Lilong police have taken them under their custody till September 3 for further investigation, said sources.

Notably, these arrests and seizures of WY tablets came a day after State police recovered 20 soap cases containing brown sugar, weighing 236 grams worth Rs 3,87,100 from a house located at Songsibok Thingkangphai village under Churachandpur police station.

The occupant of the house has been identified as one Chinsiathang (52) of Tangpijol village, Singhat sub-division, said Manipur Police Control Room in a statement.
