Imphal, December 24 2008: Identity of the person slain by a combined team of police com- mandos and troops of 32 Assam Rifles at an isolated place in between Heinou-bok and Shadokpam, under Lamphel police station, last night has been established. The victim, according to source, is one Ningombam Gopal singh (39) s/o (L) N Kulla of Heirangoithong Mutum Leirak, a Grade IV employee of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench. The source further contended that Gopal was overpowered by about four unidentified persons from the Heirangoithong to Manipur university road at around 3.30 pm yesterday and bundled away in a grey colour Santro car. The vehicle registration number do not subscribe to figure/letter of Manipur State, the source revealed while speculating that it might be registration number of Assam.

In connection with the killing of Gopal a hurriedly convened meeting was held at Maibam Leikai community hall, wherein action of the combined force evoked strong condemnation.

Another meeting is being convened tomorrow to discuss future course of public movement.
