Veteran actress Rashi passes away

Kshetrimayum Rashi (75), a legendary Manipuri film and theatre actress, passed away last night after a prolonged illness.
She was bedridden after a fall from the stairs and a subsequent operation at Shija Hospital.
A resident of Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai, Rashi made her cinematic debut in the landmark film "Matamgi Manipur" (1972), the first full-length feature film in Manipuri.
She was introduced to film and theatre by her mother Ksh Rasamani Devi.
She played the role of Rani Gaidinliu in a drama titled Jadonang played at Aryan Theatre in 1969.She also acted in Manipuri films such as "Imagi Ningthem" and "Olangthagi Wangmadasu," "Meera Memcha", "Paokhum", and "Eidi Thamoi Pikhre" among others further cementing her reputation as one of the region's most respected artistes.
Throughout her distinguished career, Rashi also featured in over 150 radio plays broadcast on All India Radio (AIR), Imphal, resonating with generations of listeners.
Acknowledging her contribution to theatre and film, she was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 13th Manipur State Film Awards held in 2020.She also received the Neta Irawat Leelaroi Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, presented by Sahitya Seva Samiti, Kakching.
Meanwhile, IPAK Films Production Manpur and the Leikol (Leimarol Khorjeikol) have mourned the demise of the renowned actress.
