Imphal, August 20 2025:
A bike rally themed "Communal Harmony and National Integration" was organized today by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) to commemorate the 81st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The rally started from Congress Bhavan at BT Road and traversed through several key areas, including North AOC, Hatta, Tellipati, Khurai Lamlong Bazar, Heingang, Sekmai, Lamlai, and Iroisemba.
The rally was flagged off by former three-time Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and MPCC president K Meghachandra Singh.
During the event, floral tributes were also paid to a photo of Rajiv Gandhi at Congress Bhavan.
Speaking to the media, O Ibobi stated that the BJP Government's decision to withhold local body elections contradicts Rajiv Gandhi's vision of empowering people.
He also alleged that the BJP Government has been undermining India's democracy.
Democracy in Manipur has been reduced to politicians switching parties, he said, adding that actions should be taken against turncoats under the anti-defection law.
Ibobi said that the Congress Party will strive to translate Rajiv Gandhi's vision for India into reality.
K Meghachandra, on the other hand, said that the bike rally which carried the message of peace was participated by over 500 people.
Saying that the people no longer expect anything from the BJP Government, he accused the saffron party of making inconsistent statements instead of working towards restoring normalcy in the State.
The BJP leadership lacks unity and the party's actions have thrown Manipur into chaos, the MPCC chief said and added that he doesn't expect the BJP to form a popular Government anytime soon.
Further alleging that the BJP has been indulging in a blame game instead of working to resolve the crisis, he claimed that the BJP's politics has jeopardized Manipur.
