Guwahati police on Sunday recovered a consignment of 10 Programmable Times Explosive Device (PTED) (ABCD timer device) from the cloakroom of a private bus terminus�Network Travels at Paltan Bazar area in Guwahati.
Two persons, who came to the Network Travels along with the bag, were also arrested from the spot, police said and added that the consignment is to be taken to Kakopathar in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district.
The two were identified as Kamal Deka and Suren Deka, police said.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Debojit Deuri said that police, while working on a tip off, went to the Network Travels and recovered the PTED and the two persons.
"The PTED were supposed to be taken to Kakopathar by the two," said Deuri.
Store Keeper of the Network Travels Subrata Baishya said that two youth entered the Network Travels at around 11.30 am on Sunday.
"One of them identified as A Gogoi and asked me to keep the bag inside the cloak room as they would go to Tinsukia by evening bus," he said.
Deuri said that the duo reached Guwahati from Kakopathar on Sunday morning and took the explosives from some Ulfa linkman or leader.
"Then they went to the Network Travels to book the bag as they were planning to return to Kakopathar today evening," he said.
"The two were asked by a hard core member of the Ulfa's 28th battalion to take the consignment from Guwahati to Kakopathar," he said and added that it was meant for the 28th battalion of the Ulfa.
"We are investigating the case and it is difficult to divulge more than this at this moment," Deuri asserted, while adding that police is yet to ascertain where the arrested duo are the cadres of the banned outfit or were just acting as carriers.
