Imphal, May 18 2025:
The Koireng-led UNLF today observed the 8th Martyrs Memorial Day at its central headquarters, district committees, branch committees, external affairs headquarters, LAKSA (external affairs), MPA general headquarters, battalions and sub-units.
The Martyrs Memorial Day was observed in memory of the departed founders of the party, MPA fighters who laid down their lives in battles fought against adversary forces and all those people who loved and supported the party.
The Martyrs Memorial Day could not be observed together with the masses on account of the protracted crisis besieging the State, said a press release issued by the outfit's Central Committee.
On behalf of the outfit and its armed wing MPA, the Central Committee has also offered revolutionary salute to all the departed founders, cadres and supporters of the party.
Paying homage to the martyrs, the party's flag was flown at half-mast at all units of the party.
The main features of the Martyrs Memorial Day observation were observing silence for two minutes, offering floral tributes at the martyrs' memorials and speeches by party leaders.
It reminded both the armed Kukis as well as Meiteis that all the people of Manipur are now facing a precarious situation where they cannot even protect their identities because of suppression and oppression by the alleged colonial rule.
Manipur is the common home of all the communities and it was the collective strength of these communities which protected Manipur from external forces at different points of its long history.
The situation of communal conflict was created by the Government of India's policy aimed at destroying the National unity, it alleged.
It is the people of Manipur who stand to lose from these conflicts, the Central Committee said.
It said that what India wants is the land of Manipur and transformation of the same land into a land of Indians.
Sagacious Kuki and Meitei leaders need to convince people of both the communities that there is no alternative other than interdependence and collective development.
If the two communities cannot understand this fact, all the communities will fall prey to India's conspiracy and sink together, it warned.
Today, WESEA and adjoining regions are becoming a site of confrontation between two formidable, antagonistic geopolitics.
As a result, the liberation movement has entered a very critical phase.
It is heartening to note that thousands and thousands of youth have come forward at such a critical time to follow the footsteps of those martyrs who laid down their lives for the people's freedom, the Central Committee remarked.
It then called upon all the people to uphold the MPA's principle of sacrificing boldly for the people's freedom and intensify the liberation movement to the highest level.
Only then, observation of the Martyrs Memorial Day would have true meaning, it added.
