Two convicted for sexual assault

Imphal, January 16 2026: The Fast Track Special Court No 1, Manipur, has convicted two individuals for sexually assaulting a minor, today and the sentence hearing will be held on January 22 .

The convicts have been identified as Dayananda Heikrujam @ Diya (38), s/o H Ibocha Meitei, and Sagolshem Sanahal Singh (37), s/o of S Mani Singh and the case dates back to 2021.Both are residents of Uchiwa Leirak Achouba, Imphal West.

They were arrested on December 10, 2021 .

According to the police, a written complaint was lodged at the Imphal West Women police station, reporting that the complainant's minor daughter had been sexually assaulted by the two convicts on September 1, 2021, inside a departmental store while the victim was asleep.

The complainant further stated that the convicts threatened her daughter with severe consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

She only became aware of the assault after her daughter disclosed the details of the incident to her.

During the investigation, the complainant fully corroborated the details mentioned in her written report, it said.

Her statement was recorded under Section 161 of the CrPC in connection with the case.

The victim was also examined, and her statement was recorded.

The victim stated that Diya and Sanahal sexually assaulted her while another unidentified person stood guard near the back door of the departmental store.

During the police custody period, on interrogation, the convicts admitted to the charge level against them but never disclosed the third person, it added.
