Imphal, July 13 2024:
The locals of Phayeng have sought cooperation from the masses in the execution of an underground oil depot project at Phayeng's Kharang Koireng under Sekmai Assembly constituency.
The construction of the oil depot will be done by the Manipur Government and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
Addressing a press briefing at Phayeng today, president of Chingu Panganba Social Welfare Association (CPSCA) Ningthoujam Rasantakumar said that the agreement to construct the oil depot at a grazing field at Kharang Koireng was signed between the Manipur Government and IOCL in 2022 .
A gazette notification was also issued in the same year to commence the project, he added.
He said that the people of Phayeng support the project as it will solve the problem of unavailability of fuel which the State witnesses from time to time to some extent.
Rasanta continued that the people of Phayeng gave the approval to proceed with the project after holding a series of meetings.
It was in the larger interest of the people of Manipur, he said on not opposing the project.
Saying that another survey to construct the underground oil depot at Kharang Koireng was done on July 11 last, he added that border States like Manipur need more oil depots to ensure there is no disturbance in the fuel supply chain.
He went on to state that the oil depot at Malom alone couldn't supply petrol and diesel to the entire State when there is shortage of fuel in the market.
Further stating that the underground oil depot will be constructed scientifically, Rasantakumar appealed to one and all to not raise any objection to the project.
Representatives of different Phayeng based organisations and Meira Lups also attended the press briefing.
