Imphal, September 12 2025: The All Manipur PHED Workers and Employees' Association has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce a package of Rs 1000 crore for the State's PHED so that the department can provide safe drinking to every household of the State.

In order to provide safe drinking water to every household of the State, a number of schemes and projects must be taken up and implemented but the department does not have the necessary funds to implement these schemes and projects, said a press release issued by the All Manipur PHED Workers and Employees' Association.

It is essential to take up a number of schemes/projects including Jal Jeevan Mission for rain water harvesting, ground water recharge and construction of new ponds in both rural and urban areas.

Moreover, new water supply schemes must be constructed in both rural and urban areas, new vehicles with tools and equipment for testing water must be purchased and sufficient staff must be appointed for all water supply schemes in both rural and urban areas so that the department can provide safe drinking water to every household of the State, the association said.

Even though water supply comes under the State List, the Constitution does not restrict the Union Government in any way in helping States particularly poor States like Manipur toward providing safe drinking to every citizen, it added.
