Imphal, June 12 2025:
Fuel supply to retail outlets from IOCL's Malom depot to retail outlets in Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi and Senapati which was suspended due to the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023 has been resumed.
On account of the violent crisis, the Malom depot could not supply fuels to Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi and Senapati.
Earlier, fuels were supplied to the four districts from outside the State.
However, following some improvement in the law and order situation in the aftermath of the imposition of President's Rule in the State, the Malom depot has resumed supplying fuels to all the districts of the State.
On the other hand, transportation of fuels from loading stations located outside the State to Imphal along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam highway) takes at least two days.
During rainy seasons in the previous years, loaded tank trucks took five to seven days to reach Imphal from Silchar.
Even today, Imphal-Jiribam highway is not in a very good shape.
Currently, CRPF troops have been escorting only 100 goods carriers including tank trucks and LPG bullet tank trucks on a day.
It implies when there are 20 body trucks in the day's convoy, there are only 80 POL tank trucks and LPG bullet tank trucks.
It remains a big question whether this limited transportation can supply the State's fuel market adequately, said a source.
