Imphal, May 12 2026:
The Waishen Marin Shemgatpa Lup (WMSL) has decided to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister to take up necessary measures to ensure the smooth flow of water in the Waishel Maril canal to prevent flooding.
In a statement, WMSL also said that a memorandum would be submitted to the MLAs of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Wangoi, Nambol, Mayang Imphal, and Keishamthong Constituencies, highlighting the current condition of the canal.
It added that a WMSL meeting was held today at Irom Meijrao, during which discussions took place on safeguarding the Waishel Maril.
The gathering also noted that the legislators of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Wangoi, Nambol, Mayang Imphal, and Keishamthong Constituencies have not yet held a joint meeting regarding the condition of the canal.
They stated that the deterioration of the canal would create major problems, not only for the five Constituencies but also for the neighbouring ones.
They also questioned when the Government would take action to ensure the smooth flow of water in the canal from its origin in Keishamthong to Samushang Shantipur.
