Manipuris In Mizoram Hold 27th Conference: Activities of State natives highlighted

Imphal, June 10 2013: The 27th annual conference of the All Mizoram Manipuri Association (AMMA) was held at Aizawl on June 8 following which office bearers of the association for the term 2013-16 were elected.

AMMA was set up in October 1976 by Manipuri people settled in Mizoram belonging to all walks of life.

With a view to promote academic competitiveness among Manipuri students living in Mizoram, AMMA has been felicitating first divisioners of class X and class XII exams every year.

AMMA is also actively engaged in teaching Manipuri language and literature to young Manipuri students.

The association observes Patriots' Day (August 13) every year.

The 27th annual conference of AMMA was graced by Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission, Manipur and Mizo- ram member L Shyamkishore, AMMA president Y Iboyaima, AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai and AMWJU advisor Salam Bharat Bushan as presidium members.

Observing that Manipuris do not have a place of their own in Mizoram, L Shyamkishore suggested AMMA to initiate a process of building a Manipur guest house in Mizoram, if possible.

He further suggested to form a common platform of Manipuri parents living in Mizoram in order to promote Manipuri culture and propagate the same to Manipuri children.

Acknowledging excellence of Manipur in culture and sports, Shyamkishore stated that Manipuris need to endeavour more to excel in all other fields.

Wangkhemcha Shamjai said that he was pleased on observing the unity among Manipuri people settled in eight different district of Mizoram.

Manipuri people now living under the relatively more efficient administration of Mizoram Government would bring innovative ideas and thoughts as and when they come back to Manipur, Shamjai exuded.

The conference was attended by around 1500 Manipuri delegates coming from Manipur, Assam, Tripura and Mizoram and it also featured colourful cultural programmes presented by young boys and girls living in Mizoram.

Meritorious awards were also distributed to Manipuri students who passed class X and class XII exams 2013, conducted by Mizoram Government in first division.

AMMA president Iboyai-ma said the association has 2500 members.

The association has been helping Manipuri people living in Mizoram at times of suffering and tragedy.

At the initiative of AMMA, the Government of Mizoram recognised as Manipuri as a Major Indian Language in 1984.Since then, Manipuri students can opt for Manipuri language as an MIL and give exams conducted by Government of Mizoram in the same language.

Accepting that Manipuri people coming to Aizawl for study or other purposes face lot of difficulties due to absence of guest house, Iboyaima said that AMMA would urge the Government of Manipur to build a guest house at Aizawl.

AMWJU president Shamjai presented a number of books published in Manipur to AMMA.

Later, election for AMMA office bearers was held with Shamjai and Bharat Bushan as presiding officers.

Ch Chittaranjan, H Joykumar and N Brojen were elected unopposed as president, general secretary and treasurer of AMMA for the next term.

This was followed by a musical concert featuring many well known singers of Manipur namely Naba Volcano, Ranbir Thouna, Nowboy, Pushparani and Natasha.
